This is very good and important feature of Amish Purple Martin birdhouse.

Good Feature! This is a huge 26-inch birdhouse with 10 individual compartments inside it, which is amazing. So, you can invite a complete flock of 10 martin families. The compartments are like small cabins inside the structure. It is like a 3-story building with the access doors at 3 different height levels. The compartments are arranged in a zigzag fashion to utilize space.
3. This Purple Martin birdhouse has a copper rooftop
Good Feature! Besides home for about 10 families of purple martins. The roof of this birdhouse is made of awesome polished copper which gives it a pleasant look. No doubt this is a fancy decor birdhouse which will not only nest your martins but it will also increase the beauty of your garden. Make sure to fix it on a post in an open area where it is visible. So, you can enjoy cute little martins swirling around your beautiful birdhouse.
4. This Purple Martin birdhouse has an access door for cleaning.
Good Feature! After the season (during the spring and early summer) is over. The fledgelings will leave the birdhouse and then you will have to clean the birdhouse for the next season. For this purpose, internal access to the individual compartments of the birdhouse is very important. This birdhouse provides access to the inside for cleaning which is very cool.
Now to open Amish 26-inch 10-Hole Purple Martin Birdhouse you will have to unscrew the birdhouse from the wooden post and then you will remove the top copper roof. This can be done by grabbing the nob at the top of the copper roof and turning it counter clockwise. This will unscrew the copper top and then you will have to remove the screw of the steel handle at the top of the birdhouse. You will find 2 other screws on the same side which will be holding the mounting bracket unscrew those as well.
Finally, you can then open the latch at the side so you will then have access to all of the compartments. you can then clean your Purple Martin birdhouse and get it ready for the upcoming season.
5. You must open a lot of screws for cleaning the birdhouse.
Bad Feature! This birdhouse is built very compact which as we said before is great but there is a drawback that you cannot open it easily. You must unscrew it in order to access the compartments and for most of the people, this task is a huge pain.
I have seen people complaining about the design of this birdhouse. The point is that it very hard to make a birdhouse which is such a compact and good looking and at the same time its easy to open.
Some of the lazy people who have bought this Purple Martin birdhouse has left the birdhouse as it is for the next season. Well! I don’t recommend leaving the birdhouse debris inside after the season is over, because they might not be that attractive to the cute little birds or they might think it’s already occupied. Your guests need a fresh start when they come inside your territory.
6. Height of the Amish 26-inch 10-Hole Purple Martin Birdhouse
This birdhouse is 26 inches high. With each compartment above 7 inches. Specifically, 5-7 inches is the recommended height of the birdhouse for Purple Martins and the dimension of this birdhouse satisfies height requirements.
7. Height of the entrance hole of this birdhouse
The height of the entrance of this Purple Martin birdhouse is only a few inches. This is very good because unlike chickadee and bluebirds (These birds like to have the entrance hole height of about 8 inches) Purple martins prefer birdhouses with the entrance hole near the bottom.
8. Entrance hole size of Purple Martin Birdhouse
The size of the entrance hole of this purple martin birdhouse is 1.75 inches. This size is within the recommended range (1-3/4 to 2-1/4 inches) for Purple Martins.
9. This birdhouse doesn’t come with a stand.
Bad Feature! Honestly, we cannot count this as a bad feature because we are buying a birdhouse not a pole. If you were expecting that you will get a mounting post along the birdhouse then surprise! You will not get a mounting post. You can mount this birdhouse on a 4 x 4 wooden post (You will need to cut the upper end of the post so that it becomes 3.5 inches by 3.5 inch) or on a 3.5-inch x 3.5-inch pressurized lumber.
Note: This 4×4 lumber recommendation by the seller has tricked a lot of people and they bought these poles thinking that the birdhouse mounting size is designed for 4×4 wood. The top end of the post should be 3.5 inches to 3.5 inches. For your satisfaction, I will recommend buy the birdhouse first and then measure the dimension for the mounting post and then order the pole accordingly.
Mounting Amish 26-inch 10-Hole Purple Martin Birdhouse
This purple martin birdhouse doesn’t come with a stand so to mount this birdhouse you need to buy a wooden mount along with it. The wooden mount pole will be a little expensive, but it will look amazing with the birdhouse.
The Birdhouse should be 10 to 20 feet above the ground. So make sure the length of the post is larger than 10 feet.
Note: This birdhouse mount is designed for 3.5×3.5 inches lumber. So the upper end of the post must be 3.5 x 3.5 inches. You need to cut a 4×4 post to make it narrower to mount it perfectly on the birdhouse.
If you are low in the budget or you don’t want to spend much, then you can just buy a 3.5 inch by 3.5-inch pressurized lumber which will fit perfectly into the mounting grip of the birdhouse. You can then easily screw the birdhouse on to the lumber. I will recommend painting the lumber with a white color which will match the birdhouse color and will look cool and Remember Purple Martins like white color.
My Recommendation: The wooden lumber of 3.5 by 3.5 inches will do a perfect job for this task. Just give It a white paint so its color will blend in with the birdhouse and it will look amazing. If you can find 3.5 inches by 3.5 inches post the go for it otherwise don’t buy a 4×4 post.
This birdhouse is quite effective in attracting purple martins. it has a beautiful design and it has the capacity to provide a home to 10 Purple Martin families. The cleaning of this birdhouse is a bit harder because you will have to open a lot of screws to access the interior cabins. If you have seen purple martins around your neighbourhood I will suggest, go for it. You will not be disappointed.
